More about St Oswald’s Hospice

Meet Ellie-Mai…

Ellie-Mai is 15 and lives in Sunderland with her family. She attends St Oswald’s Hospice for overnight breaks three nights a month.

During her stays, she loves watching Disney films and having her nails painted.

Mum Stacey describes the short stays as a “godsend for the whole family” and said:

“I can spend quality time with my son Lewiee and get a decent night’s sleep knowing Ellie-Mai is being well cared for.”

Supporting not just a patient, but their family too, is a big part of what we do at St Oswald’s Hospice. Read Stacey and Ellie-Mae’s story below.

Meet Norman…

For the past 18 months, Norman has been coming to St Oswald’s Hospice every 3 weeks for blood transfusions as part of his ongoing treatment for cancer. While some people may feel uncertain when the word ‘hospice’ is mentioned, this wasn’t the case for Norman. He said:

“It didn’t bother me at all. The hospice is closer to home, so I thought ‘that’s nice and handy for me’.”

“I used to go to the hospital, where they did their best, but it was busy, and I would be sitting around for hours feeling useless. At St Oswald’s Hospice, I arrive at 9.30am, go straight in and am offered a cup of tea. It’s a home-from-home for me and the staff are all marvellous and happy – they light up my days!”

We are proud to be able to support Norman through his treatment, read more about his inspiring story below
